Meet and greet

  • Help the children to introduce themselves.
  • Name, city, state, grade etc.
  • If the children couldn’t summarize, help them, by asking one question at a time.
  • The answers should be in full sentence.
Tips:
( bei/bhawa, mama/mami- this kind of addressing in speech should be insisted.)

Start with a greeting. (make it a habit).
Lessons:
-Talk about the nuclear family, GhEr nAv!( get an idea about their dialect, where their ancestry is)
-Number 1-5
While waiting for other students to come in, ask simple questions like how are you?  What did you eat? Do you have pets? Help them to answer in full sentence.
Nuclear family (Mom, dad, brothers, sisters -older and younger)
Ask how the children are addressing them and to be addressed.
(Not morae ambo, avre ambo or bo is the correct way to refer to them.)

Number 1-5
Very simple sentence. (mogo oNTe bei sEtte)


Tips:
  • make them draw a family tree. 
  • Number song. 
  • Simple, made up story with words/ phrases, the children have learned in two classes. Use your creativity.

 How to address them, which is very important. Each region uses a different word.

-mousi/mouso, mamo/mami,mhoTTabo/mhoTTambo,nannabo/nannambo, attebei/bhavo
If any of the students doesn’t have any of those relatives don’t insist on that. Just let them know this is how we address them. Don’t go beyond this. (No mousi bedo/bedi,mhoTTabaa bedo/bedi)
Tips:
  • Story telling - tell me about your family or tell me about one outing trip/ you went with your family.
  • Number song.

Lessons:
Colors 
Fruits 
Review 1,2,3 class lessons.  Correct the pronunciation then and there.
Tips: 
  • (red, blue, yellow, green, white, black) lhhova, niLa,, haLduna,  polsa, hujaaL, kaLa
  • Use flash cards
  • coloring pages
  • play scavenger hunt. 
  • Ask the children to bring a particular color object or fruits. 
  • If you are planning to use the coloring pages send the picture a few days before the class and ask the parents to print it.

Review the previous class lessons
Lessons:
-Body parts 
-Simple sentences (only present tense) 
Tips: 
  • Song to the tune of head, shoulder, knees and toes. Teachers should send the song to the parents through WhatsApp a few days before class and let the kids listen to it before class. During class ask your students to sing it, it will take a few weeks to learn it.
  • dosko, doLo, nAk, kAn, hAt, PAyin, anGgiLin, pOT, pAT. 
  • I have 2 eyes. I have 1 nose.  Here you can teach the difference between mii and mogo.

part 6


Simple direct Verb- action words i.e. , dhAm, biis, dhunki, andii, jhirkki, hUT. hibbi, etc.
Opposite
Review the previous lessons
Tips: 
  • mii keraryo, kerartte, ami, bo,ambo, dado, bei, mai, suno. Keratin
  • Unco/Khallo, biis/hUT, bhittar/ bharAT, Av/jA etc.
  • Simple present tense with these words. 
  • Create a story with all these words and use the students' names as the characters in your story.
  • We highly encourage the teachers to use flash cards or share screens with nice pictures and ask questions.
  • Start off conversation among themselves, asking questions to each other.  Guide them to whom to ask and how to address them.

Emotions

Tips: 
  • Ask the children what makes you happy, cry etc.,
  • Show the pictures or share a screen to ask questions, like what is the emotion you see in this picture.
  • Tell the children to show the emotions on their face as you ask.
  • Storytelling.
  • Simple (present and past tense) sentences with these lesson words.

Ask open ended questions. They will love to share their stories.

Tips:
  • show the types of food that matches the taste.
  • Ask them to bring food  items from their pantry. 
  • Ask them to tell 2 or 3 items for each taste.
  • Story telling-Combine the previous lessons too.
  • Talk about breakfast, lunch and dinner

Cooking- e.g.Make lemonade.
 Tips:
  • Ask the parents to provide lemon, sugar and water. show lemonade being made together and discuss how lemon and sugar tasted.

part 10


Kitchen – simple verbs and nouns
  • Take them to the kitchen and make actions and ask questions and make it a fun learning.
  • Make a video of a popular dish with the presentation in our language and share a screen during class. After watching, ask questions to see if they understood and explain more if needed. Also ask what their favorite food is. Keep pictures of some of the popular dishes if possible and show it to your class.
